Desperate to find a soulmate in New York City, Shawn experiences one awkward date after another until he encounters the alluring Violet. He asks her out, but his autism prevents him from understanding she’s actually a prostitute. Drawn in by his kindness, Violet appreciates Shawn’s quirky nature but conceals what she does after dark. Shawn soon imagines Violet could be his perfect wife while Violet thinks Shawn could be her ticket to a new life. This comedic tale of two misfits takes a dramatic turn when they face an unexpected crisis. Their only hope for a future is to discover the courage that comes from loving someone deeply.

As a single guy with autism myself, I was excited to dive into Hooked and follow Shawn’s journey to find love and connection in NYC. This rom-com earns 4 stars from me for its relatable characters and thoughtful themes.

I really appreciated seeing an autistic protagonist navigate the perplexing world of dating. Shawn’s quirks, honesty, and open heart made him easy to root for. His dating struggles definitely felt familiar!

Violet also grows into a sympathetic character as you learn of her hopes for a fresh future. Though an unlikely match, seeing their bond develop gives the story real heart.

While I felt the title and cover art could be improved, the movie adaptation’s name Sounds of Violet fits the vibe better.

Overall, Hooked tells a poignant story celebrating neurodiverse perspectives in an empathetic way.

For a charming tale of connection that sheds light on autism in dating, Hooked hits the mark. I look forward to more inclusive rom-coms ahead!
