Dive into this revealing portrait of Stranger Things fan-favorite Lucas Sinclair and get to know Lucas like never before! Lucas’s guide for surviving freshman year: make new friends, be yourself . . . and save Hawkins. Lucas Sinclair is tired of feeling like an outsider. With Max dealing with her own problems, and Will and El leaving town, he has no one to lean on. And he could really use someone after the last few years of fighting monsters, dodging international spies, and the recent events at Starcourt. But then high school starts, and Lucas suddenly has options beyond playing D&D and being bullied. After connecting with someone on the basketball team—one of the few other Black students at school—Lucas begins to understand what it means to be a Black teen in Indiana, just as his town is plunged into trouble once again. Will Lucas be able to find his place in Hawkins in time to save it? From Suyi Davies, contributor to the New York Times bestselling Black Boy Joy, comes an exploration of love and identity within the beloved Stranger Things universe through the eyes of Lucas Sinclair.

A Relatable but Slow-Paced Adventure.

Buckle up, Stranger Things fans! Suyi Davies takes us on a journey into the mind of our Lucas Sinclair in “Lucas on the Line.”

The book shines a spotlight on Lucas’s inner thoughts and struggles, giving us a deeper understanding of this fan-favorite character. Davies does an excellent job of exploring the challenges of identity, friendship, and finding one’s place in the world. It’s refreshing to see Lucas take center stage and grapple with issues that many teenagers can relate to.

However, the story starts off a bit slow, and it’s not until the chilling events of Chrissy’s death (which ties into Season 4 of the show) that the excitement really kicks into gear. Until then, the book primarily focuses on the “monsters” of high school – bullies, racism, and the struggle to fit in. While these themes are essential and well-executed, some readers may find themselves yearning for more supernatural thrills and Upside Down adventures.

Overall, “Lucas on the Line” is a delightful read for Stranger Things enthusiasts who want to dive deeper into Lucas’s psyche. Davies’s writing style is engaging and captures the spirit of the show perfectly. While the pacing may be a bit slow for those seeking constant action, the book offers a refreshing perspective on one of our favorite characters. Sit back, grab some Eggo waffles, and enjoy this entertaining glimpse into the life of Lucas Sinclair.
