The “must-read YA thriller” (Bustle) from #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying about a small town with deadly secrets. “When it comes to YA suspense, Karen M. McManus is in a league of her own…” –Entertainment Weekly Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows. The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone has declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing. Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she’s in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous–and most people aren’t good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it’s safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

Welcome to Echo Ridge, Where Secrets Are Deadlier Than Small-Town Gossip!

Pack your bags for Echo Ridge, folks, because Karen M. McManus is back with another mystery that proves small towns aren’t as sleepy as they seem! “Two Can Keep a Secret” serves up all the juicy drama you could want from a place where everyone knows everyone’s business; except for the really important stuff, apparently!

Meet Ellery, our plucky protagonist who’s being shipped off to live with her grandmother in a town that seems to have a serious problem with keeping its teenage girls safe. Between her aunt’s decades-old disappearance and a more recent homecoming queen murder, Echo Ridge is giving off some seriously sinister vibes. It’s like “Gilmore Girls” meets “Twin Peaks,” and I am absolutely here for it!

McManus has a real talent for creating these picture perfect small towns that are absolutely rotten underneath their charming facades. Echo Ridge looks like the kind of place where you’d want to grab coffee and browse antique shops, but scratch the surface and you’ll find more buried secrets than a dog’s backyard bone collection.

The best part about this book? It’s a delightfully quick read that zips along faster than small town rumors. McManus knows how to keep the pages turning without bogging you down in unnecessary details or lengthy descriptions. Perfect for a weekend binge read or a beach vacation!

Just when you think you’ve got this mystery figured out, McManus hits you with some genuinely surprising twists in the final act. I love when an author can pull the rug out from under me without making me feel cheated; these revelations feel earned rather than random, which is the mark of solid mystery writing.

Ellery makes for a compelling narrator who’s dealing with her own family secrets while trying to unravel the town’s mysteries. Her growing relationships with the locals, particularly her budding romance, add nice emotional depth to balance out all the dark intrigue.

The only reason this isn’t hitting five-star territory is that some plot points feel a bit familiar if you’ve read McManus’s other work. She definitely has a formula that works, but occasionally it shows. Still, when the formula produces such entertaining results, who’s complaining?

“Two Can Keep a Secret” proves that McManus hasn’t lost her touch for crafting addictive mysteries with just the right blend of teen drama and genuine suspense. If you’re looking for a book that’ll keep you guessing while you speed through its pages, Echo Ridge is calling your name!

Just remember – in a town full of secrets, trust no one… especially not that friendly neighbor with the too-perfect smile!
